PicoWay® is FDA-cleared for all Fitzpatrick skin types, making it one of the safest and most reliable laser systems for clients across the full spectrum of complexions—including those with melanin-rich skin (Types IV–VI). Its ultra-short picosecond pulses dramatically reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the skin, which helps protect melanocytes and maintain the skin’s natural pigment balance. This reduced thermal exposure minimizes the risk of hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and unwanted textural changes, making treatments far safer and more predictable. Because of its gentle energy delivery and precise wavelength targeting, PicoWay® consistently delivers smoother recoveries, lower complication rates, and more stable outcomes for individuals who require a melanin-friendly laser solution.

Enlighten™ III is commonly used for tattoo removal and pigmentation treatments on lighter skin tones, and while it offers both picosecond and nanosecond capabilities, it does not have the same depth of safety data or FDA clearances for darker complexions. Its longer pulse options can introduce more heat into the skin, which increases the likelihood of pigment disruption and inflammation—particularly for Fitzpatrick IV–VI patients who are more sensitive to thermal energy. As a result, Enlighten™ III must be used with greater caution and lower intensities on deeper skin tones, often limiting its effectiveness and reducing treatment consistency compared to the more inclusive and clinically validated performance of PicoWay®.
